danceDay 210 Day Introduction to Balletfor beyond 50s & beginners

Today the class is much shorter. This is because there is less explanation. We go through all the exercises from yesterday.

Duration: 30 minutes

CLASS EXERCISES:

  • Positions of the Arms: Bras bas, First, Second, Third, Forth & Fifth position
  • Positions of the Feet: First, Second, Third, open Forth & Fifth position
  • Arm & Feet Position Exercise
  • The Demi Pliés: We work the Demi Plié (meaning half bend) with the feet in Parallel Position, First Position and Second Position. We also Demi Pointe or Relevé (meaning rise up) which is a rise up onto your tippy toes.
  • Pointing the Feet: This exercise warms up the feet and helps to find a correct ballet point of the foot.
  • Pliés & Tendus: (full name: Battement Tendu)meaning ‘to beat’ & ‘to stretch’. This is a point where the toe never leaves the floor. It is a foundational step in ballet and we do this step to the front, to the side, and to the back. We combine this with our demi plié (half bend).
  • Battement Dégagé: meaning ‘to disengage’. This step is like a Tendu but now the leg comes off the floor.
  • Battements & Jumps: (or Grand Battement) meaning ‘big beat’. This is a high kick with a straight leg.
  • Curtsy: (also known as the reverence). We do this at the end of every class. It is a lovely end to the class, and a little thanks to dance.
