Your private class will be tailor-made just for you. Your class will be designed for your specific needs, whether you are a complete beginner or looking to improve your technique. I will guide you through the fundamentals of ballet, including proper posture, alignment, and movement, while also incorporating fun and creative choreography.
My goal is to make your class accessible and enjoyable, while you reap the numerous benefits that ballet offers, including:
strength, balance, stability, mobility, grace, improved cognition and total enjoyment.
Prior to the first class, we will discuss your needs, your physical level, and make sure you get a class that hits the spot just for you!
The classes are held are online and live-streamed via Zoom, so you can take your class from the comfort of your own home.

The class is hosted by Zoom Video Conferencing. On the day, two hours before the class, you will receive an email with the unique Zoom Link to access the class.

What is the format of the class?
This is your class. It will be designed and tailor-made to suit your ability, and your needs. The class can be ballet based or seated, we can focus just on body mobility and strength, or the artistry of dancing. As an example, we will begin with a warm up to stretch and move the body. Following that, we work through a series of beginners barre exercises that are suitable to you. After the barre exercises, we move to the center where we dance a variation to the music of one of the famous ballets. And we end the class with a ‘reverance’ or curtsy.
How do I access the Live Class?
Book and pay for the class above. 8 hours prior to class, you will receive, via email, a unique link to the Zoom platform where the class is streamed. We then send out a reminder email with the link 2 hours before class begins. When you are ready to join the class, click on the link and you will enter the class via the Zoom video and audio link.
What is Zoom?
Zoom is a video conferencing application that will allow the streaming of our class live via video link to your device. It is free software that you can download onto your computer, tablet or mobile. What should I wear?
Anything that is comfortable and provides ease of movement.
I don’t have ballet shoes, what should I put on my feet?
It depends on your floor. Socks, sticky socks or bare feet. We like socks on carpet, and sticky socks or bare feet on wood or tiled floor. TIP: slightly wet the bottom of your socks or ballet shoes for a little bit more grip.
I don’t have a barre.
Neither do we. A good barre substitute is the back of a chair, an ironing board, a high table, banister, counter top or even a wall.

I have noticed not only my core strength returning, but also my deportment has improved dramatically. No more slouching and definitely have found myself standing beautifully erect with tummy tucked in, first position, in the queue in Sainsburys!
This class is a real winner – Susan and Elizabeth are the most engaging and highly personable tutors, as is the other favourite daughter Marina, who is very capably in charge of technical support. So, if like me, you need to get moving but want to have a good laugh and fun along the way, you need to check out Ballet Based Movement, I really cannot recommend them highly enough.
I have so enjoyed the Ballet Based Movement ballet classes. Susan is a brilliant teacher and the music she chooses is just wonderful. Having danced a lot in my life, BBM has brought me nothing but joy, especially in the lockdowns. I am more flexible, have better core muscles, and know that ballet is improving my osteoporosis. To be able to access the recorded classes is an extra bonus so I can dance whenever I feel like it!

I LOVE the classes. Susan is a wonderful teacher. Her warmth and enthusiasm reach through the computer screen! I have benefited mentally and physically from classes and love the fact that the recordings give me chance to practise in between classes. I feel stronger, more supple and my balance has improved (something I never thought could happen at 63!) I have loved getting ballet back into my body and my soul. Each Ballet Based Movement session is so uplifting and enjoyable, a wonderful activity to look forward to. As a bonus, my shape has changed for the better, my bingo wings have tightened and my overall strength has increased, a brilliant thing to be part of.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, how creaky your body feels or you have never danced before. I had gone through both a knee and a hip replacement and thought that it would be a struggle. But I needn’t have worried as not only is this is great exercise, Susan and Elizabeth make it such fun. I guarantee you will feel the health benefits but more importantly you will really enjoy it!
